DraftKings Early MLB Picks For June 30

There are only three afternoon games on getaway day, which makes this the smaller tournament of the day. There are a few good options. Let’s find out what the past stats say!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Best Bet:

Kenta Maeda ($9,500): Maeda is seeing his first duplicate opponent in his major league career in the Brewers. The Japanese import held the Brewers to just one run (a Scooter Gennett homer) in 6.1 innings while striking out eight back on June 19th. That resulted in 22.9 DraftKings points, which would likely make him the afternoon’s highest scorer if he can duplicate those numbers.

A.J. Griffin ($8,400): Griffin has not given up more than three runs in any start this season, which makes him a lower risk than most. His strikeout totals are unimpressive, so his upside is limited, but there is something to be said for a  sure 18-22 points. Oh, and the Yankees are hitting just .194 off of Griffin in 62 at bats with just one extra base hit (a Jacoby Ellsbury double; his only hit in 13 at bats) and two runs (both driven in by Mark Teixeira). He has only struck out 11, but again, there is something to be said for dominating without strikeouts.

Honorable Mention:

Carlos Rodon ($8,500): The Twins aren’t pounding lefties like they have in past years, and the only player to homer off of Carlos Rodon on the roster, Miguel Sano, is still on a rehab assignment at AAA Rochester. The Twins are hitting just .245 against Rodon with one homer and just three runs while striking out 12 times. Rodon has also given up two runs in each of his last three starts. There is a lot of potential here.

Zach Davies ($8,000): Davies gave up just one run in seven innings (a solo homer by Justin Turner) against the Dodgers on June 17th while walking one and striking out six. He notched 21.6 DraftKings points in that outing. If he can do it again, he is a good bargain for the price, and maybe the best option of the afternoon slate.

Dark Horse:

Tommy Milone ($6,100): The .274 average is a bit inflated by the success of Carlos Sanchez (6-10, three RBI). If you take his production out of it, the Sox are only hitting .240 with five runs and 16 strikeouts in 96 at bats. Those are really good numbers, and he comes at a much lower price. However, his 5.33 ERA on the season should make you a little nervous.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Mitch Moreland ($3,400) is 4-9 with a walk, a double, a triple, two homers, and three RBI against Michael Pineda. He easily dominates the hitters based on past stats alone. Prince Fielder ($3,400) also has a three run homer off of Pineda, his only hit in three at bats.

Carlos Sanchez was the only White Sox player to really hit Tom Milone well (6-10, two doubles, three RBI). The rest of the team is hitting .240 against Milone with five runs in 96 at bats with 16 strikeouts. The good news for Milone is that Sanchez is now in the minors, so he could have a good day today.
