NBA Free Agency 2016: 5 best fits for Dwyane Wade
2. Cleveland Cavaliers
If it won’t be the Miami Heat re-signing Dwyane Wade, then the Cleveland Cavaliers should be seen as a legitimate option.
The story goes back to 2010 and even before that, as Wade and LeBron James have been close. It’s a reason why James went to the Heat in the infamous “The Decision” and teamed together for four years. They won two titles together, made four NBA Finals appearances, and ended it there when LeBron left for Cleveland in 2014.
Now, with the Cavs as the Eastern Conference’s best team, especially coming off a 2016 NBA Finals win, maybe we could see James and Wade team up in Ohio.
For Wade to join the Cavs, he would probably need to take a pay cut. James will probably re-sign for around the max, which is $30 million. Plus, plenty of money is tied up in Tristan Thompson, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love. The Cavs would either have to go way above the salary cap or get creative with the contracts already on the roster.
With that said, if James wants Wade in Cleveland, you could expect management to make an effort. Could there be enough of a connection to make the dollar figures work?
