Miami Heat: Let Pat Riley be Pat Riley

Pat Riley has done the impossible before. The Hall of Fame coach and executive teamed with Dwyane Wade to engineer the “big three” landing with the Miami Heat, and the end result of that move netted two NBA championships for LeBron James, Chris Bosh and company.

Now, the Heat face another massive challenge.

Riley is trying desperately to lead Miami to the front of the line in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, and at the same time, the Heat must address contracts for both Wade and Hassan Whiteside. In short, the landscape is wide open for Riley, and if he hits a home run, it will be beautiful to watch. If he doesn’t? It could be catastrophic.

Still, the Heat aren’t really in a position to be picky here, as Wade isn’t able to carry the water at the same level that he once was, and hitching the wagon to Whiteside as the “number one” option would be aggressive to say the least. Pat Riley has worked magic in the past, and there is every reason to believe he can again.

Even if Riley’s master plan does not necessarily involve Kevin Durant.
