NBA free agency 2016: Kent Bazemore meeting with Rockets on Friday
Kent Bazemore set up a surprise meeting with the Houston Rockets right at the start of 2016 NBA free agency
One of the players expected to see a tremendous increase in his salary with the deal that he signs in 2016 NBA free agency is undoubtedly Kent Bazemore who spent last season with the Atlanta Hawks. However, Bazemore had said that he would hold off on free agency meetings until July 5. As it turns out, he and the Houston Rockets actually had other plans.
According the Shams Charania of The Vertical, the Rockets and Bazemore set up a surprise meeting at 12:01 a.m. ET that no one saw coming at the start of free agency:
This is a highly intriguing development on numerous levels. For one, the fact that the Rockets were able to swoop in and secure a meeting with Kent Bazemore when he was expected to wait on meetings is a huge sign that there could be something serious brewing there.
In terms of fit, it’s also a highly interesting fit for the Rockets. Not only would he fill a void on the wing as a versatile player on both ends of the floor, but Kent Bazemore is also a player whose value really began to rise with the Los Angeles Lakers while playing under Mike D’Antoni. D’Antoni of course is now at the helm for the Rockets.
This is something to watch closely as the surprising nature of the meeting could be an indication that Bazemore signs much sooner than expected.
