NBA free agency: Courtney Lee, Knicks to meet on Friday
As NBA free agency rapidly moves, the New York Knicks are set to meet with Courtney Lee.
NBA free agency is moving fast and furious on early Friday morning. Teams are discussing huge deals with players, some of which fans wouldn’t expect to get big dollars. This includes the Los Angeles Lakers possibly giving Timofey Mozgov four years, $65 million.
The New York Knicks have been active early on. They are rumored to be signing center Joakim Noah to a four-year, $70-plus million deal and might not be done yet. Shans Charania of The Vertical is reporting that the Knicks are set to meet with free agent Courtney Lee.
Lee is coming off a season where he put up 9.6 PPG for the Memphis Grizzlies and Charlotte Hornets, the latter of which acquired him in a midseason trade in 2016.
By potentially signing Lee, the Knicks would fill a hole at the shooting guard position. The 2015-16 starter, Arron Afflalo, opted out of his contract and became a free agent. The Western Kentucky University product could start and join a lineup that might feature Noah, Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Rose and Kristaps Porzingis.
The question is how much money Courtney Lee will receive. Based on all these numbers being tossed around, it wouldn’t be crazy to expect him to get beyond $10-12 million per year. With the Knicks already nearing one big deal with Noah, could it be two if they sign Lee?
