NBA free agency rumors: Jeremy Lin signing with Brooklyn Nets
By John Buhler
Free agent Jeremy Lin is close to signing a deal to become the next starting point guard for the Brooklyn Nets. He last played for the Charlotte Hornets.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical of Yahoo Sports!, “free agent guard Jeremy Lin is nearing a multi-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets.”
Lin is coming off a solid year backing up Charlotte Hornets starting point guard Kemba Walker in 2015-16. The 2015-16 Hornets made the Eastern Conference Playoffs and took Southeast Division rival Miami Heat to seven games in their first round series.
Though Lin could have signed with a contending team to be a backup yet again in 2016-17, it seems that he wants to get a multi-year deal and a big payday after bouncing around the league since the 2011-12 phenomenon that was Linsanity with the New York Knicks.
Lin even tweeted out a picture of himself in a Nets uniform, excited for “the next chapter” in his NBA career.
While the Nets are probably not going to sniff the 2017 NBA Playoffs, this is a mutually beneficial fit for both Lin and the Brooklyn basketball club. The Nets cut former starting point guard Jarrett Jack on Thursday to effectively pursue one of the better free agent point guards on the market, which would include Lin.
New Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson will be lucky to have a veteran point guard in Lin help turn his club around in 2016-17. Atkinson is coming from a situation with two really good point guards in Jeff Teague and Dennis Schroder as the former top assistant with the Atlanta Hawks.
Lin gets that multi-year deal and the ability to start for an NBA team, playing in another borough of the city he once electrified with the Knicks. Does Linsanity, 2.0 commence in the Barclays Center this winter?
