The Sacramento Kings have reached out to Matthew Dellavedova according to a report from The Vertical as he has become a target for the struggling Kings.
Matthew Dellavedova made a name for himself two years ago in the NBA Playoffs as a scrappy folk hero who helped slow down Stephen Curry at least for a little bit. Sometimes dirty, but always going all out, Dellavedova gained value as a player willing to do anything.
Every team needs a guy like Dellavedova in some form or fashion.
The Sacramento Kings are desperately in need of some type of winning attitude or culture. And, in trying to replace Rajon Rondo, are targeting a number of point guards to help fill that void.
Dellavedova may be one.
In addition to pursuing Dion Waiters, Chris Mannix of The Vertical reports the Kings are also pursuing Dellavedova and Ryan Anderson. He reports the team contacted them early Friday.
Dellavedova averaged a career-best 7.5 points per game and 4.4 assists per game last year. Those hardly describe his impact as someone who would mix things up and be physical with opposing point guards.
He signed a one-year deal last year and the Cavaliers do not have his Bird Rights, so it is very realistic the sparkplug point guard could be out of Cleveland no matter what.
The Kings are always in need of some depth — and a whole lot more — with plenty of questions about their guard situation. Dellavedova could be a popular choice to help new coach Dave Joerger change the culture in Sacramento.
