One reporter said that pop singer and part owner of the Memphis Grizzlies, Justin Timberlake, was involved in the recruiting of Chandler Parsons.
Across the NBA, free agency has been crazy in just the first day with over $1 BILLION in contracts being given out in just the first hours alone. Teams used whatever it took to get players onto their team. Miami has the beach and nightlife…New York has all the business chances…the Lakers have…well, we’ll get back to you on that one.
For the Memphis Grizzlies, there is not much on the surface that they have to get a free agent to join the team when it comes to the city. True, plenty of BBQ and music clubs, but not much more than that. As it turns out, the Grizzlies did have something to convince players to come to the state of Tennessee.
One writer says that a member of the team’s ownership and a heartthrob in the early 2000’s was a vital part of the team getting Chandler Parsons, who agreed to join the team from the Dallas Mavericks:

There you go, ladies and gentlemen…JT is the secret to how the Grizzlies will again be a championship contender!
I joke about that, but when you don’t have much for your city to offer, you have to do whatever it takes to get someone to sign on the dotted line. We’ll see how long it will be before the team says “Bye, Bye, Bye” to Parsons when things don’t work out.
