Report: Dwayne Wade is getting $20 million annual offers
By Hunter Cooke
Dwayne Wade is becoming a hot commodity in this year’s free agency sweepstakes.
It’s not exactly a secret that Dwayne Wade is not happy with his current situation in Miami.
The Heat reportedly royally pissed Wade off when they offered him 10 million for the 2016-2017 season — a 50% pay cut from his last year’s salary of 20 million. Wade had one of his best seasons ever in a Miami Heat uniform, averaging 23.7 points per game and leading the Heat to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Dwayne Wade has taken a pay cut in three straight deals in order for the Heat to be able to sign higher profile players.
Reportedly, the Chicago Bulls, Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Dallas Mavericks have been the biggest pursuers of Wade. No one knows where Dwayne Wade will end up, but it will likely be wherever agrees to pay him at least 20 million. If the Heat are serious about keeping the 12-time All Star around, they will have to jack up their price range considerably. It will definitely limit them in the rest of free agency, but the Heat might not be able to lose the most consistent player in franchise history.
The Heat are chasing Kevin Durant in free agency while also trying to appease Hassan Whiteside and Dwayne Wade. Wade’s insistence on feeling the market out would indicate that there might not be a way for the Heat to get all three. Re-signing Wade should be their first priority, but it’s likely someone else will pick up the prolific shooting guard.
