NHL Free Agency Rumors: Dan Hamhuis signs two-year deal with Stars
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Dallas Stars have signed defenseman Dan Hamhuis to a two-year deal worth $7.5 million.
The Dallas Stars entered free agency with just four defenseman signed for the 2016-17 season. Needing to replace both Alex Goligoski, who went to the Arizona Coyotes, and Jason Demers, who is still a free agent, the Stars moved quickly by picking up former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis on a two-year deal worth $3.75 million a season.
Not only will Hamhuis get an excellent state tax rates in Dallas, he’ll be joining one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup next season. He should replace Goligoski. Hamhuis is one of the better shut down defensemen in the NHL and if he can stay healthy, he can handle his own at moving the puck as well. Though assuming he is paired with John Klingberg, that certainly won’t be an issue as Klingberg is a phenomenal puck mover.
The term is good for the 33-year-old Hamhuis. He still has some good years left in him and the Stars have young defensemen ready to step in and ease the burden on Hamhuis. Considering what other defensemen have gotten in free agency, $3.75 million a year is a nice deal as well.
Hamhuis has 373 points in 872 career games. Assuming he plays 82 games a year, he should reach the 1,000 game plateau during the 2016-17 season.
