NHL Free Agency Rumors: Shane Doan close to deal with Coyotes
According to John Shannon from Sportsnet, the Arizona Coyotes are close to a new deal with captain Shane Doan.
One of the top free agents still available is forward Shane Doan, who has spent his entire career with the Arizona Coyotes franchise. According to John Shannon from Sportsnet, the Coyotes are very close to agreeing to a new contract with their captain.
Doan has spent all but one of his seasons in the state of Arizona, his lone season out of it being spent in Winnipeg. He means a lot to the Coyotes and he deserves to stay his entire career with the Coyotes. Doan could be approaching his final NHL season, but he has yet to confirm anything.
He will be approaching 40 years old in October. Doan is a very prideful man, so he could want to go out on his own terms rather than be forced out. He is the Coyotes’ franchise leader in goals (396), points (945), power play goals (125), and games played (1,466). Even though the Coyotes are trending in a younger direction, Doan is still an extremely important mentor and leader for the young Coyotes.
No active player has spent more seasons with one franchise than Doan. The 2016-17 season could be his last one, so make sure to appreciate the 2009-10 King Clancy Trophy winner while you still can.
