The Carolina Hurricanes have reached a one-year agreement with free agent forward Viktor Stalberg.

The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that they have signed former New York Rangers and Nashville Predators forward Viktor Stalberg to a one-year deal.

Stalberg spent last season with the New York Rangers and has also played for the Nashville Predators, Chicago Blackhawks, and Toronto Maple Leafs. The deal is reportedly worth $1.5 million.

From NHL.com:

"Stalberg, 30, appeared in 75 games for the New York Rangers in 2015-16, netting nine goals and adding 11 assists (20 points). The Gothenburg, Sweden, native has totaled 152 points (71g, 81a) in 413 career NHL games with Toronto, Chicago, Nashville and the New York Rangers."

He should serve as a bottom six forward for the Hurricanes. Stalberg is known for being a solid defensive forward who can provide a little bit of offense, as his 20 points in 75 games last season showed. He should be a strong mentor for the Hurricanes and their young core of forwards. Stalberg should help the Hurricanes improve their penalty kill as the team hopes to make the playoffs next season, or at least contend for a playoff spot.

He will likely be on the Hurricanes third line, providing their bottom six with some size. Stalberg is a well-rounded player who is a reliable third line or fourth line option. Carolina has made some quietly efficient moves and could contend for the playoffs as soon as next season.
