NHL Rumors: Dale Weise to Montreal Canadiens?
According to Darren Dreger, the Montreal Canadiens are strong favorites to bring back free agent forward Dale Weise.
The Montreal Canadiens have made some big splashes already in the 2016 offseason by trading for Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw and trading star defenseman P.K. Subban to the Nashville Predators for Shea Weber. According to Darren Dreger, bringing back free agent forward Dale Weise is a strong possibility for them.
Weise spent three seasons with the Canadiens before they traded him to the Chicago Blackhawks at the 2015-16 trade deadline. Before coming to Montreal, he spent three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks and one season with the New York Rangers. Weise had 27 goals and 32 assists in 59 points during his152 game tenure with the Canadiens. Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien is a huge fan of Weise due to his character and the energy that he brings to the ice.
While Weise is the kind of guy who head coaches love because he hustles, he is not somebody worth giving more than $2 million a year. Weise is not that skilled and he is best utilized as a third or fourth line wing. There’s a good reason why Weise hustles – he knows that if he didn’t he likely would be out of a job.
Bringing back Weise at a reasonable price wouldn’t be a bad move by the Canadiens. He’s a fast forward who brings energy to the table and his penalty killing is underrated. However, he is not worth overpaying for.
