Al Horford confirmed reports that he will sign with the Boston Celtics, reportedly for a four-year deal at over $23 million per year
Al Horford was always going to be one of the guys that dictated many of the things that would happen in 2016 NBA free agency. The former Atlanta Hawks center commands that type of respect for what he’s able to do on both ends of the floor. On just the second day of free agency, though, Al Horford has made his decision.
Adrian Wojnarowski first of The Vertical reported that Al Horford would be going to the Boston Celtics in free agency, agreeing to sign a four-year, $113, million deal:
Al Horford plans to sign a four-year, $113M deal with the Boston Celtics, league sources tells @TheVertical.

Not that Woj’s word isn’t basically law at this point in NBA circles, his reports were quickly confirmed by Al Horford himself as the big man then took to Twitter to confirm that he’s headed to the Celtics:

What’s interesting is that the announcement of Horford heading to Boston came literally just minutes after reports that the big man was potentially heading back to Atlanta. Wojnarowski reported that Horford was making a late push with the Hawks, but “relented” before deciding to take his talents to Beantown:
Horford relented on the late Hawks push, and just notified the Celtics that he plans to sign a max deal with them.

This is massive for the Celtics in an enormous way. Their biggest holes were in the frontcourt last season and now they add arguably the best player at the position available in free agency. You have to think that Boston now looks like a potential threat in the East and could look more threatening if other potential deals now work out in their favor after Horford.
