Identifying the top high salary and value second baseman plays from around Major League Baseball for your July 2 DraftKings lineup.
Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.
As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.
High Salary
Brian Dozier, Twins (5,300): We’d love this matchup more if Dozier was facing a left-hander on the mound, but he’s still too hot to ignore. The veteran Twins second baseman extended his hitting streak to 13 games on Friday, a stretch that includes six home runs and seven double-digit fantasy totals. Ride the hot hand Saturday against Texas Rangers righty Chi Chi Gonzalez (0-0, 9.00 ERA).
Daniel Murphy, Nationals (5,200): Murphy, who is tied for Jose Altuve for the top batting average in the majors (.352), is surprisingly 0-for-6 in his career against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Dan Straily (4-5, 4.38 ERA). Straily might have his number, but we prefer to think that Murphy’s .371 average against right-handers indicates that he’s due for a breakout.
High Value
Javier Baez, Cubs (3,600): Baez, like virtually all of the Cubs’ young stars, is blossoming into a solid all-around player. Over his last five games, he has eight hits (two home runs) and seven RBIs. He’s never faced New York Mets veteran Bartolo Colon, but he’s always a threat to go yard. Baez is still best suited for GPPs, but he’s an intriguing option on Saturday.
Jonathan Schoop, Orioles (3,300): Schoop has turned into a hitting machine for Baltimore this season. His .300 average and 88 hits both rank second on the team behind superstar Manny Machado. Schoop and the rest of the Orioles lineup should be able to do some damage on the road against Seattle Mariners left-hander James Paxton (1-3, 4.15 ERA).
