Mother Goose Stakes to test 7 accomplished fillies
The Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont today brings together seven accomplished 3-year-old fillies all looking for that fairy tale ending in the winner’s circle.
Rachel’s Valentina’s debut at Belmont Park in the Mother Goose Stakes (Grade 1) finds her the morning line favorite (9-5) in the field of seven 3-year-old fillies. Her last start was in the Kentucky Oaks (Grade 1) where she was sixth in an uncharacteristic finish off the board. Today will tell if she has returned to form. On a sentimental note, Rachel’s Valentina is the daughter of Rachel Alexandra, whose win in the 2009 Woodward Stakes had the Saratoga grandstand shaking to the rafters.
Lewis Bay is second in the morning line odds at 2-1. She won her maiden at Belmont in October and has wins in the Grade 2 Demoiselle and Gazelle Stakes on her resume. Lewis Bay finished third, ahead of Rachel’s Valentina in the Kentucky Oaks (Grade 1).
The three fillies rounding out the Mother Goose Stakes field are Off the Tracks at 3-1, Linda Mimi at 30-1, Off the Tracks at Mom’s On Strike at 20-1, and Mo d’Amour at 12-1.
