NHL Free Agency: P.A. Parenteau signs one-year deal with Islanders
The New York Islanders have announced that they have signed free agent forward P.A. Parenteau to a one-year deal worth $1.25 million.
On July 1, the New York Islanders made some interesting moves by signing Andrew Ladd to a seven-year deal worth only $500,000 less per season than Kyle Okposo’s seven-year deal with the Sabres, and by signing Jason Chimera to a two-year deal.
The Islanders have announced that they have signed former Toronto Maple Leafs wing P.A. Parenteau to a one-year deal worth $1.25 million.
Parenteau signed at a very reasonable price. It is likely that he will be re-united with John Tavares, his center from 2010 to 2012 when he played with the Islanders. In those two seasons, Parenteau had 120 points, including 38 goals, in 161 games. Signing Parenteau should help the Islanders replace Okposo, though obviously, he can’t do it by himself.
His price comes at a lower AAV and term than the Islanders gave to Chimera to replace fourth line forward Matt Martin. Expect Parenteau to get some playing time with Tavares because he has great chemistry with him, something that Okposo had as well.
The Islanders will need someone like Matthew Barzal, Josh Ho-Sang, or Anders Lee to step up their game if they want to improve from last year’s team, but Parenteau at a cheap price is a very solid addition.
