Jamal Crawford agrees to stay with Clippers on three-year deal
By Mark Gunnels
After receiving interest from multiple teams, fan-favorite Jamal Crawford elects to stay put in Los Angeles.
Despite his age of 36, Jamal Crawford had a plethora of teams interested in his services from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Golden State Warriors.
However, the three-time Sixth Man of the Year will not be relocating anytime soon.
In a time where free agents are breaking the bank, this contract doesn’t look too out of the ordinary, although Crawford will be making $14 million per season over the next three years.
This past season, Crawford won Sixth Man of the Year for the third time, as he averaged 14.2 points per game, while shooting 90% from the free throw line.
After being informed Kevin Durant won’t be to the city of angels, this was a move the Clippers found necessary to make. Sure, Crawford is a poor defender, but he’s a guy you give the ball to with the expectation of getting a bucket in return.
Nonetheless, around this time yesterday the common belief was that Crawford would be going elsewhere, especially after Austin Rivers was granted a lucrative contract of three years, $35 million.
Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see what owner Steve Ballmer and company have up their sleeve because, as currently constructed, this team is not ready to seriously compete for a championship.
Yes, the Clippers will exceed 50 wins again and most likely end up with a top four seed in the Western Conference, but haven’t we seen that movie too much already?
