NBA Free Agency Rumors: Nets plan to sign Miami Heat G Tyler Johnson to $50 million offer sheet
According to The Vertical, the Brooklyn Nets are planning to sign Miami Heat guard Tyler Johnson to a $50 million offer sheet.
The crazy spending of the 2016 NBA offseason has not been limited to unrestricted free agents. It has extended to the restricted free agent crop as well. According to The Vertical, the Brooklyn Nets will sign restricted free agent guard Tyler Johnson of the Miami Heat to a $50 million offer sheet. The deal will be a four-year offer.

Brooklyn was reportedly quite creative with the offer sheet, adding two poison pill years at the end of the deal that would require the Heat to pay Johnson $18.8 million for the 2018-19 season and $19.6 million for the 2019-20 season. The Heat will have three days to match that offer sheet once Johnson officially signs it.
Signing Johnson to a huge offer sheet is an undeniable risk for the Nets, as Johnson has played in just 68 NBA games over the past two seasons. Johnson has career averages of 1.6 assists per game, 2.8 rebounds per game, and 7.4 points per game. However, the Nets believe that he can be a part of their backcourt with Jeremy Lin. Johnson will get ample playing opportunities while in Brooklyn. He reportedly got interest from other teams, but clearly his best opportunity to play is with the Nets.
Should the Heat choose not to match the offer sheet, the Nets will not have to forfeit any compensation to the Heat.
