Ben Simmons finds Richuan Holmes with pass behind his head (Video)
No. 1 overall pick and Sixers rookie Ben Simmons dished out another ridiculous assist at Utah NBA Summer League, this one going behind his head
There are many things that made Ben Simmons the obvious No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft for the Philadelphia 76ers. He’s a fantastic athlete with a body already set to handle the rigors of the NBA. Moreover, he has the rebounding ability and instincts to simply affect the game in a variety of facets. However, his greatest ability coming out of LSU as a power forward would undoubtedly be his ability to set up teammates as a facilitator. He was putting that on display in his first game at Utah NBA Summer League.
After already dazzling with the way that he ran the fast break as the ball-handler, Ben Simmons again put his passing on display as he got the ball at the top of the key. He then attacked on the right side of the lane to draw the defense in before he went behind his head with a perfect pass to teammate Richuan Holmes for the bucket:
There are veteran NBA point guards who can’t make that pass.
Yet here’s Ben Simmons as a rookie power forward in one of this first Summer League games doing that type of thing and making it look easy. There may have been some “character” concerns about Simmons coming into the NBA, but there’s no arguing his talent—especially when you see plays like this.
