The New York Knicks and Brandon Jennings have agreed to a deal.
Brandon Jennings is your newest member of the New York Knicks, and will likely provide depth behind injury prone star Derrick Rose. Jennings began the 2015-16 season in Detroit, and was traded to the Orlando Magic halfway through the season. Jennings barely spent half a year with the Magic, as it appears that the point guard has agreed to terms with the Knicks.
The Knicks were going to be a strong team in 2016 whether they signed Jennings or not. Jennings joins an offseason haul for the Knicks, who went after Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah hard. They got both, and Noah and Rose will be a great complement to Carmelo Anthony. Brandon Jennings has had injury issues of his own. He spent most of 2015 and 2016 struggling with an Achilles injury, but he seems to have fully recovered from it.
Jennings played sparingly in Orlando, averaging only 18 minutes a game and seven points per game. His injury struggles played a part in this, but it’s also likely that Jennings just didn’t fit in well in Orlando. Jennings hasn’t really been the same since he played for the Milwaukee Bucks, with whom he made the postseason twice. He had a couple of good seasons with the Pistons, but has never truly made it back to where he was at the beginning of his career.
Signing another injury-prone point guard tells a lot about how the Knicks view Derrick Rose. They might not have as much confidence in Rose’s health as we’ve been led to believe.
