DraftKings Early MLB Picks For July 4

Ten of the games are in the early tournament, so that makes it the larger tournament of the day. We have plenty of options for figurative fireworks before you get to the literal ones!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Joel De La Cruz was solid in his first major league start in a loss to Cleveland. His reward is a shot at the Phillies today. He could post very good numbers if you decide to roll the dice with him. The downside is that he only had one strikeout in six innings.

Tyler Anderson has never faced the Giants, but he has put up a sparkling 2.66 ERA in his first four major league starts with 24 strikeouts in 23.2 innings pitched. This game is also in San Francisco, so Anderson could be a great sneaky pick.

Cody Reed got lit up by the Cubs in his last start, allowing seven runs in only four innings. He gets the same team again today. Stay far away from this one.

Best Bet:

Lance McCullers ($8,800): McCullers has held the Mariners to a lousy .190 off of him in 42 at bats with a whopping 17 strikeouts. The bad news? They have collected a homer and four RBI. Still, on a day where all of the statistically best options have poor histories, the strikeout potential here makes McCullers much less of a risk.

Jerad Eickhoff ($8,400): The Braves are hitting a respectable .286 against Eickhoff in 49 at bats, but they only have one homer and three runs scored. The bad news? Eickhoff has only four strikeouts in that span. Still, the Braves aren’t intimidating anyone with that lineup. There is a lot of potential here.

Honorable Mention:

Matt Harvey ($7,000): The Marlins are hitting just .179 off of Harvey in 134 at bats with one homer, ten RBI, and 32 strikeouts. Despite Harvey’s struggles this season, he allowed just one run to the Marlins over seven innings back on June 5th. There is potential for another very solid outing here.

Matt Moore ($7,200): Moore dominated the Red Sox his last time out, so we know what he is capable of when he is pitching well. The problem has been consistency. He will look for some today against an Angels team that is only hitting .237 off of Moore in 38 at bats with just two solo homers (by Albert Pujols and Mike Trout) and eight strikeouts.

Dark Horse:

Kendall Graveman ($5,400): Graveman beat the Twins back on May 30th, allowing two runs in six innings. The bad news is that he only struck out four, but if he gets you 18.1 DraftKings points at this price, you wont have much to complain about.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

You may want to consider a righty stack against Jon Niese. Yadier Molina ($2,800) is 10-28(.357) with three walks, a double, a homer, and three RBI off Niese. Jedd Gyorko ($3,800) is 6-14(.429( with two doubles, a homer, and two RBI. Jhonny Peralta ($4,300) is 6-17(.353) with a walk, a double, and two RBI. Matt Holliday ($4,700) is only 5-23(.217) off of Niese, but he has two walks, a double, a homer, and five RBI. Stephen Piscotty ($4,300) is 3-5 with a walk, a double, a triple, and a RBI off Niese.

Jose Altuve ($5,600) is 10-15 with three doubles and a solo homer off of Wade Miley. Evan Gattis ($3,700) is 5-11(.455) with a walk, two doubles, and two RBI. Carlos Gomez ($3,400) is 5-17(.294) with two walks, a double, a triple, a homer, and two RBI against Miley.

Yoenis Cespedes ($4,600) is 3-8 with two doubles, a triple, and two RBI against Tom Koehler. Asdrubal Cabrera ($) is 2-5 with a solo homer. Travis d’Arnaud ($) is 6-15 with four walks and two doubles against Koehler. Koehler gets a break not having to face David Wright or Michael Conforto. Combined, they had a homer and nine RBI off him!

Joey Votto ($3,800) is 4-6 with with five walks and two solo homers off of Kyle Hendricks. Adam Duvall ($4,100) is 2-3 with a solo shot as well.

Freddie Freeman ($4,600) is 4-8 with a walk and a solo homer against Jerad Eickhoff.

Hanley Ramirez ($4,800) is 3-5 with a walk, a double, two homers, and three RBI off of Nick Martinez. Jackie Bradley Jr ($5,100) is 1-3 with a two run homer against Martinez.

Curt Casali ($2,200) is a perfect 2-2 with a double and a solo homer off of Nick Tropeano.

Adrian Beltre ($3,600) is 8-21(.381) with two walks, two doubles, and a solo home run against Rick Porcello. At least Porcello doesn’t have to face Josh Hamilton, who is 6-16 with two homers and eight RBI off of him.

Melky Cabrera ($4,300) is 4-13(.308) with two solo homers off of CC Sabathia. Brett Lawrie is only 4-20, but he has also homered twice off of CC.

Yonder Alonso ($3,300) is 3-7 with a walk, a homer, and three RBI against Ricky Nolasco.

Alex Rodriguez ($3,600) is 15-54(.278) with eight walks, four doubles, three homers, and five RBI against James Shields. Jacoby Ellsbury ($4,100) is only 15-63(.238) with three walks, three doubles, two homers, and five RBI off of Shields.

Gregory Polanco ($4,400) is 9-16(.563) with seven walks, three doubles, a triple, and a RBI against Carlos Martinez. Starling Marte ($4,500) is 10-19(.526) with a walk, two doubles, and three RBI.

Nolan Arenado ($4,800) is 7-14 with three doubles, two homers, and seven RBI off of Jake Peavy already. Ryan Raburn is only 3-15, but two of those hits are home runs.

Robinson Cano ($4,000) is 4-8 off of Lance McCullers, but has no counting stats. Ketel Marte ($2,800) is 1-3 with a solo homer.
