The Oklahoma City Thunder spoke on Kevin Durant announcing his decision to head to the Warriors in free agency

Although it’s the 4th of July, everyone in the sports world was waiting for one thing and one thing only on Monday, that being the decision from Kevin Durant. After a little bit of a wait, the NBA world was shaken up with the announcement that he’d be joining the juggernaut that is the Golden State Warriors.

While it’s nice to talk about how dominant this team will be now with one of the top three players in the NBA, we also have to remember that he’s leaving an organization in Oklahoma City with the Thunder that’s been the only NBA home that he’s ever known. Shortly after the announcement, the team released a brief statement on losing the biggest star they’ve ever had.

It’s devastating for the Thunder to lose Durant like this, but as he said in his announcement on the Players’ Tribune, this is what he felt was best for him personally and professionally. He believes he made the right decision, and a lot of people do agree with that sentiment.

As interesting as it’ll be to watch the Warriors, though, it’ll be equally as interesting to see where the Thunder go from here.
