The San Antonio Spurs still need to clear some space for Pau Gasol’s arrival, meaning that they will look to move Boris Diaw.
Even though Tim Duncan is leaning towards retirement, the San Antonio Spurs have found an immediate replacement. It was reported earlier that the Spurs will sign Pau Gasol on a two-year deal worth $30 million after he opted out with the Chicago Bulls.
While two years is good for Gasol considering his age, $15 million is still a substantial cap hit for them to take on. That’s why the Spurs aren’t done making moves, as Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Boris Diaw will become a casualty of Gasol’s imminent arrival:
For the Spurs to complete the Gasol signing, they're working on a trade to move Boris Diaw, league sources tell @TheVertical.

Even though Gasol is 35-years-old, he still put up great numbers with Chicago last season, averaging 16.5 points and 11 rebounds. At his age, he serves as an upgrade over Boris Diaw, as well as Tim Duncan who looked out of sorts in the playoffs.
However, Diaw has served the Spurs well over the years, and has morphed into a great role player. In the 2014 Finals, he was inserted into the starting lineup which proved to be a catalyst since, from that point on, they wiped the floor with the Miami Heat.

Diaw still has one year left on his contract, and is only making $7 million, so whoever gets his services will be very satisfied.
