The 4th of July has been a wild day thus for the NBA with Kevin Durant signing with the Golden State Warriors. While Durant moves onto a new team and says goodbye to an old team, one legend could be saying goodbye to the league.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, San Antonio Spurs forward is drifting more and more toward retiring and we might have seen his last game in the NBA.
"One of the NBA’s all-time icons – San Antonio Spurs center Tim Duncan – is leaning strongly toward retirement, a decision that would end an illustrious 19-season NBA career, league sources told The Vertical.Duncan has left team officials, close associates and friends with a strong belief he’s preparing to make an announcement in the near future on his departure, sources said."
It’s highly unlikely that this move surprises anyone as Duncan wasn’t getting much run toward the end of the season, but if this is indeed the end, it was one of the greatest careers that has ever taken place on the Hardwood.
Duncan helped lead the Spurs to five NBA Championships and six appearances in the NBA Finals. There wasn’t a more consistently fundamental big man than him in his career and he’s the last of a dying breed of big man in the league.
If this is indeed the end, what a run it was.
