Rajon Rondo’s potential fit next to Jimmy Butler
By Andre Pruitt
How will Rajon Rondo and Jimmy Butler mesh?
The Chicago Bulls have essentially found their starting point guard after agreeing to a two-year $28 million deal with Rajon Rondo . With the former MVP and home town hero Derrick Rose, traded to the New York Knicks, the signing of a point guard became a top priority for the Bulls.
As evidenced over the past two seasons, Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose did not play too well together as a back court tandem. In fact last season when Derrick Rose was injured, Butler averaged around 27 points per game compared to nearly 20 with Rose healthy.
With Rajon Rondo manning the point it will undoubtedly be a better fit next to Jimmy Butler, than it was with Rose but that is not saying much as Butler and Rose often looked lost while playing with each other on the floor.
For a player such as Jimmy Butler who relishes more playing with the ball in his hands, playing with a ball dominant guard like Derrick Rose surely did not benefit his game. As Butler is a guy who likes to initiate the offense for himself and teammates.
Rondo and Butler should be a better mesh. Though, Rondo himself is another ball dominate point guard, the difference between him and Rose is that Rondo holds the ball looking for assists while Rose looks more towards creating a shot for himself.

Rondo will surely flow better next to Butler than Rose did, but Butler essentially would be a better fit with a spot up shooting point guard.
