NBA Trade Rumors: Thunder listening to Russell Westbrook offers?
By Jack Crosby
With Kevin Durant now gone, are the Thunder really going to listen to trade offers for Russell Westbrook?
Monday the NBA world was literally rocked with the news that Kevin Durant would indeed be moving on from the Oklahoma City Thunder, agreeing to sign with the Golden State Warriors. Immediately, everyone pointed out how now Russell Westbrook is the lone superstar in Oklahoma City, all by himself.
Or … will that even be the case?
According to a report from ESPN.com, with Kevin Durant now out of the picture, the Thunder may look to extend the contract of Westbrook before he becomes a free agent himself next summer. However, should they not come to an agreement on an extension, then some people around the league believe that Oklahoma City will absolutely listen to trade offers for Westbrook.
Immediately following the Durant announcement, people wondered whether or not the team would look to move their second superstar, although it was pointed out multiple times that it would be tough, seeing as the UCLA product is set to be a free agent next summer and could take off from his new home.
But, the fact remains that this is Russell Westbrook we’re talking about, one of the most explosive players in the NBA. While teams looking to deal might be scared off by his impending free agency next year, there will be executives out there more than willing to pull the trigger on a good deal regardless and take their chances. We’ve seen crazier deals go down before, so this isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
Time will tell, but it looks like the Thunder will at least be willing to listen on some phone calls.
