Former Boston College stars Matt Ryan and Luke Kuechly will have their jerseys retired by their alma mater.

Having your jersey retired is one of the highest honors a player can receive.

For two former Boston College stars, that honor will become a reality this fall.

In a press release, Boston College Director of Athletics Brad Bates stated:

"On behalf of Boston College and Eagles fans everywhere, I would like to congratulate Luke and Matt on this well-deserved honor. Matt and Luke represent the very best of intercollegiate athletics and personify the Jesuit principle of ‘men and women for others.’ Both enjoyed brilliant collegiate careers and have gone on to enjoy success in the NFL. Beyond the gridiron you would be hard-pressed to find two gentlemen who conduct themselves with more integrity, discipline, generosity and kindness. They make all of us very proud."

Both Ryan and Kuechly are enjoying NFL success. Ryan was drafted by the Falcons in 2008 and has started every season for the Atlanta football club since then. He’s led the Falcons to the playoffs four times in his career, but has only advanced to the next round once. Ryan has had a turbulent career with the Falcons, but that doesn’t diminish his accomplishments with Boston College.

Kuechly was drafted eighth overall by the Panthers, and has been the cornerstone of the stalwart Panthers defense since joining the team. He was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2013, and he appeared in his first Super Bowl last season.
