Even though the relationship between Broncos owner John Elway and star OLB Von Miller is strained, the former is trying to make the relationship work.

If you haven’t been following the ongoing saga between Von Miller and the Broncos, you might find it a little petty in its current state. Miller cropped Elway out of an Instagram photo. He’s said that there’s no chance he plays in 2016 under the franchise tag. Despite the headbutting between Miller and notoriously frugal owner and former player John Elway, Elway has stated that he’s reaching out to Miller to make it work.

Von Miller was the MVP of Super Bowl 50, and is without a doubt the best pass rushing linebacker in the NFL. He recorded 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in the title bout with Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. Since then, he’s been slapped with the franchise tag, which means that he’ll make an average of the top five salaries for his position in the 2016 season. Miller has repeatedly stated that he will not play under the franchise tag, and therefore, the Broncos have until July 15th to resign Miller or risk him keeping his word.

At this point, you can’t afford to lose a guy like Von Miller. It’s not exaggeration to say that if he’s not on the field in Super Bowl 50, the Broncos lose that game. I understand Elway attempting to pinch pennies, but you can’t mess around with a talent like Miller. You pay a man like that, and you keep him happy and on your roster for as long as you can.
