MLB All-Star Game 2016: American League roster
By David Rouben
David Ortiz and Mike Trout headline the American League starting roster for the MLB All-Star Game.
The starting rosters for the MLB All-Star Game are out, and there’s a very heavy Boston Red Sox contingent. Despite the fact that they trail the Baltimore Orioles by two games in the AL East, four of the nine starters are Red Sox starters.
Considering it’s his last season, David Ortiz was going to get lots of love from across the league, but Red Sox nation decided to ride the wave from Ortiz’s votes to get three other players in the starting lineup in Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Xander Bogaerts.
Here’s the starting roster in full:
And since it’s his last game, Ortiz gets to go out on a milestone:
Even though Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson got over 11 million votes last year, he couldn’t beat out Manny Machado in the starting lineup this year. Machado is one of the biggest reasons for the Orioles’ early season success, and he’s fully deserving of his spot.
And last but not least, Mike Trout, arguably the best player in baseball, got voted into his fifth straight All-Star Game. He was the MVP of last year’s All-Star Game and will hope for a repeat performance as the American League vies for home field advantage in the World Series.
Even though the National League has all the best teams in the MLB this year, the American League has won the Midsummer Classic three years in a row, and will hope to add to that streak this year.
