Things become more surreal for the Oklahoma City Thunder, as Kevin Durant’s picture was removed from outside the arena.

Kevin Durant signing with the Golden State Warriors surprised the basketball world. He took a two-year deal to join the Western Conference champions, and will now join two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

As for the Oklahoma City Thunder, they have to regroup. They lost their franchise player and the one who led the team through the post-Seattle move in 2008. He’s been on billboards, promos and has been the main face at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

Well, all of that is disappearing. On Tuesday, the Thunder removed Durant’s photo from outside the arena.

It’s a surreal sight to see Durant being removed from all things Thunder, since he was the face of the franchise. Fans will have three-plus months to let this sink in and wonder what the future of OKC basketball will be. Given that Russell Westbrook reportedly won’t look for a contract extension with the team, could the entire look of the franchise change by late October?

Fans will also look forward to finding out when Kevin Durant and the Warriors will visit Chesapeake Energy Arena in the 2016-17 season. When he does, it should be an interesting sight to see.
