DraftKingsĀ Late MLB Picks For July 6

Eight games make up the night tournament, giving us a slightly larger player pool than the earlier games. There are four pitchers over $9,000, so who should you pay for? Let’s check the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Colin Rea has not faced Arizona yet, but his 4.79 ERA could make him tough to use. That is, unless you really buy the struggles of Shelby Miller.

Best Bet:

Jaime Garcia ($8,300): Garcia has held the Pirates to a .214 average in 42 at bats with just three extra base hits (all doubles) and two runs while striking out 13. Those numbers look really good. The knock on Garcia this year has been his maddening inconsistency. He has given up five runs or more in three of his last eight starts, and hasn’t had a scoreless outing since May 11th.

Honorable Mention:

Drew Smyly ($8,100):Ā Smyly has struggled with a 5.33 ERA this year, but the 1.26 WHIP and 108 strikeouts provide some hope. So do his career stats against the Angels. The current roster is hitting just .205 off Smyly in 39 at bats with just two runs scored and 12 strikeouts. Scared of Mike Trout? He is 2-11 with a RBI against Smyly.

Dark Horses:

Jered Weaver ($5,800):Ā This is a case where the past numbers look really good and the season numbers don’t. The Rays are only hitting .200 off of Weaver in 135 at bats with two homers, nine runs, and 29 strikeouts. However, Weaver is 6-7 this year with a 5.51 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. He had a 5.70 ERA in June, which was actually an improvement over his May mark (6.43). Which numbers hold up?

Shelby Miller ($4,600):Ā The numbers against San Diego are excellent. Miller has held them to a .171 average in 41 at bats with four runs and 12 strikeouts. The numbers this year (2-8, 6.85 ERA, 1.76 WHIP) are not. The numbers say Miller could be a steal. His performance this year suggests otherwise. Miller has had more games in which he allowed more than three runs (six) than less (four). Only one of those four has come in the last two months.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about ā€œstackingā€ pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

The Rockies have actually hit Johnny Cueto pretty well, but this game is at sea level. Nolan Arenado ($4,100) is only 3-13, but he does have two walks, a homer, and two RBI. Carlos Gonzalez ($4,100) isĀ 7-23(.304) with a walk, a double, a homer and six RBI against Cueto. TrevorĀ Story ($3,600) is 3-7 with a solo homer. At least Cueto doesn’t have to dealĀ withĀ Gerardo Parra. ParraĀ is 12-35(.343) with three walks,Ā four doubles, two homers, and three RBI off of Cueto.

You may want to stack some Cardinals against Jeff Locke. Matt Holliday ($3,600) 5-16(.313) withĀ four walks, a home run, and four RBI against him. Matt Carpenter ($)Ā is 4-16 with three walks, a double, and three RBI. Kolten Wong ($3,200) is 2-5 with a walk, a home run, and two RBI against Locke. How about Jedd Gyorko ($3,400)? Gyorko is 3-8 with a home run and five RBI against Locke already in his career.

Jered Weaver is struggling, and a few Rays have hit him fairly well. Oswaldo Arcia ($3,700) is 2-8 with a pair of RBI. Evan Longoria ($3,800) is 6-23(.261) with three walks, three doubles, and a solo homer. Steven Souza ($3,400) is 2-7 with a double, a homer, and two RBI against Weaver.

Andrew McCutchen ($3,500) is 4-11 with a walk, two doubles, and a RBI. Josh Harrison is the only other one to drive in a run off of Jaime Garcia, and he doesn’t even have a hit in six at bats.

Surprisingly, only Hunter Pence (8-26, two homers, seven RBI) and Buster Posey ($4,200) (10-36, one homer, eight RBI, five walks)Ā have hit Jorge De La Rosa hard. Fortunately for De La Rosa, he only has to deal with Posey tonight.

Evan Gattis ($3,000) is 2-3 with a double, a homer, and two RBI off of Wade LeBlanc. LeBlanc has been brilliant in his two starts, but the current Astros are 7-18(.389) against LeBlanc.

Fortunately for Steven Wright, he doesn’t have to deal with Josh Hamilton, who has two solo homers in two at bats against Wright. Ian Desmond ($4,600) still has a solo homer in three at bats though.

David Ortiz ($5,100) is 2-6 with a double and a solo homer against Martin Perez.

Robinson Cano ($4,600) is 1-2 with a three run homer against Mike Fiers. That isn’t much, but any time you play Cano this year, it is usually a good play.

Junior Lake ($3,100) is 3-4 with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and two RBI off of Ian Kennedy. He could be a very sneaky play today at the top of this lineup. Troy Tulowitzki ($3,900) is only 6-31(.194) against Kennedy, but he has six walks, two doubles, three homers, and six RBI. When he hits Kennedy, he hits him hard.
