Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal scored two quick goals at the start of the second half against Wales in the Euro 2016 semifinals.

Portugal has had a habit for late-match victories throughout the knockout stage of the 2016 European Championship.

It took extra time to get a victory over Croatia in the Round of 16 while it took penalty kicks against Poland to reach the semifinal matchup against Wales.

The first half saw no goals from either side, but that changed once the second half began.

Ronaldo put that header into the back of the net to break the deadlock in the 50th minute, but he was not done just yet.

With Wales still reeling, Ronaldo found Nani with a beautiful pass to push the lead to 2-0 and make it one that gets harder to overcome as the clock keeps ticking.

Ronaldo joins Lionel Messi as one of the most heavily criticized athletes in all the world, but this three-minute stretch of genius will help his reputation compared to that of Messi, who is contemplating retirement from national team play because of a missed penalty kick.

There is still much time left in the match, but Portugal remains on the offensive and Wales seems to be playing reactionary to Portugal’s pace.

A win for Portugal would give the country a chance to claim its first European Championship after finishing in fourth-place in 2012. A victory would also supplant Ronaldo as the best footballer in the world, ahead of Messi, because of his ability to win not only on the club level, but at the national level as well.
