MLB Trade Rumors: 5 trades Chicago Cubs should make
If the Cubs decided to trade a guy like Soler, they could easily make it work with their current roster. Kris Bryant and Ben Zobrist can easily step in as starting outfielders as they have many times this season, and Javier Baez is becoming a must-start player for the Cubs everyday.
That being said, if Soler gets moved in a deal for Miller or another top-end arm, I could see the Cubs then looking to add some stability to their outfield. Where is better to look than their old friend Billy Beane and the Oakland Athletics.
Josh Reddick is a strong defensive outfielder with an impressive patient approach at the plate. He is hitting .308/.388/.442 at the plate this season, has played for Epstein and company in the past and is their ideal kind of player at the plate.
The Cubs have many offensive options, but adding the solid bat of Reddick to the mix would only make them more dangerous. I doubt this move would come without a trade of an actual MLB offensive piece like Soler accompanying it, but if the Cubs have room for Reddick, I bet they would love to add him.
A pending free agent for the selling A’s, Reddick should be able to be obtained by the Cubs for a relatively cheap price. Outfield prospect Mark Zagunis is a similar patient hitter who is playing well at Triple-A. A package of him and Vogelbach should be close to enough to get the A’s to bite.
