According to a report, the Heat might not be able to move Josh McRoberts in a trade to clear cap space to keep Dwyane Wade.

The Miami Heat have a real chance of losing Dwyane Wade in free agency. With the Denver Nuggets willing to pay a lot more money than the Heat are able to and other teams in relentless pursuit of Wade, the Heat could be losing their leader on the floor.

While the Heat aren’t giving up on Wade and hope to bring him back, it’s getting tougher to try and clear the cap space to offer him what other teams are offering. According to Ira Winderman, the Heat are having a hard time moving the contract of Josh McRoberts to another team without giving up a young asset or Justise Winslow.

Essentially, unless the Heat are willing to continue to mortgage their future, this is their way of saying that they couldn’t keep Wade unless they wanted to sell off all future assets.

It’s important to note that they already gave up two future first-round picks of their own to the Phoenix Suns in a trade for Goran Dragic. By the time those picks come around, the Heat could be in a rebuilding mode and those picks would have been useful.

Basically, if they don’t feel that they can get the space necessary without furthering depleting their future assets, this could mean the Heat have a tough choice to make regarding Wade.

Perhaps this pushes him closer out the door.
