The Dallas Mavericks have reportedly made a trade with the Indiana Pacers, sending veteran reserve forward Jeremy Evans to Indianapolis.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical at Yahoo! Sports, the Dallas Mavericks are going to trade veteran forward Jeremy Evans to the Indiana Pacers.

Evans played sparingly with the Mavericks during his lone year in Dallas in 2015-16. He appeared in 30 games and started in only two of them. Evans averaged 2.4 points per game and 1.8 rebounds per game in 8.4 minutes per contest last season.

Evans had spent the previous five NBA seasons (2010-15) playing for the Western Conference’s Utah Jazz, where he averaged 3.7 points and 2.7 rebounds  in 10.8 minutes per game.

Though he has rarely played during his six-year NBA career, Evans has been a strong shooter from the field. While he’s nothing special from beyond the arc (a career 23.1 percent 3-point shooter), Evans has shot above 50 percent from the field in all six of his NBA seasons. He is a 56.8 percent shooter from the field and has averaged 58.2 percent on two-point field goal attempts in his career.

This trade could be mutually beneficial. Dallas presumably needs to clear some cap space to accommodate Harrison Barnes’ max contract and Andrew Bogut’s expiring contract, acquired via trade with the Golden State Warriors.

Indiana will look to increase its roster’s depth and the trade for Evans gives new Pacers head coach Nate McMillan get a solid mid-range shooter in his front court rotation coming off the bench. Evans isn’t a kid anymore at 28 years old, but he could end up getting more playing time, or at least a larger role, with a better Pacers team than he did on last year’s Mavericks.
