Here are five reasons the New York Knicks should go after Russell Westbrook in 2017

The 2016-17 New York Knicks will probably be an Eastern Conference Playoff team this upcoming season with all the high-profile acquisitions the organization has made this summer. New York will tote out an impressive starting five with Derrick Rose at point guard, Courtney Lee at shooting guard, Carmelo Anthony at small forward, Kristaps Porzingis at power forward, and Joakim Noah at center.

While that starting five should be good enough to get the Knicks into the 2017 NBA Playoffs, there is a strong chance that this five will only be together for one season. Yes, Rose has inferred that he would probably re-sign a contract with the Knicks in 2017 NBA free agency after his current contract expires, but there are no guarantees he won’t grab more money elsewhere if the Knicks aren’t a strong team this winter.

With the Knicks possibly in the market for an elite point guard next summer in 2017 NBA free agency, they will have plenty of high-end options to choose from. If the Knicks could have the pick of the litter in the 2017 free agency point guard market, Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook is the best fit for the Knicks needs at the point.

A true superstar hasn’t been in New York since Patrick Ewing left the team over a decade ago. While Anthony is good, he’s never been an elite player for the Knicks. Though Porzingis could one day become that, here are five reasons the Knicks should be all-in on the Westbrook sweepstakes next summer.
