Identifying the top high salary and value second baseman plays from around Major League Baseball for your July 8 DraftKings lineup.
Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.
As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.
High Salary
Jose Altuve, Astros (5,100): Altuve is a worthy play night in and night out, but he’s particularly inviting against Oakland rookie right-hander Daniel Mengden (1-4, 3.48 ERA). Altuve is hitting a robust .353 against righties this season, and his .346 overall average is tied with Washington’s Daniel Murphy for the major-league lead.
Jason Kipnis, Indians (4,900): Kipnis is a better play against righties (.279) than he is lefties (.243), so that makes his Friday matchup with New York Yankees rookie righty Chad Green (1-1, 4.09 ERA) one to exploit. Kipnis, like the rest of his Cleveland team, is hot. He’s piled up 34 DK points in his last two starts. Roll Kipnis out with confidence.
High Value
Chase Utley, Dodgers (3,700): Utley’s season totals (.270, five HRs, 27 RBIs) won’t blow you away, but he’s still capable of big games now and then. Case in point: His six-hit, 26-DK point outing Thursday against Baltimore. Utley is hitting .284 against righties this season, which bodes well for his Friday matchup with San Diego Padres right-hander Andrew Cashner (3-6, 4.42 ERA).
Kolten Wong, Cardinals (3,200): It’s been a disappointing season thus far for the 25-year-old Wong, but with Matt Carpenter’s recent oblique injury, Wong’s playing time stands to increase moving forward. He stands out as a decent GPP play on Friday against Milwaukee’s Jimmy Nelson (5-7, 3.65 ERA). Wong is 5-for-16 with a double, triple and home run against Nelson in his career.
