Here are five moves that the New York Mets should consider making by the MLB Trade Deadline to improve their team.
The New York Mets were projected by many to win the National League East division title for the second consecutive season. As of July 7, they are in second place and four games back from the Washington Nationals.
They still hold the first National League wild card spot, which means that if the season ended today, they’d be hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Wild Card game. While they are in a pretty good position, they must improve their team if they want to make another run in the playoffs like they did last season.
Injuries have set the Mets back and have noticeably hurt their lineup. Third baseman David Wright has an unknown timetable for his return. First baseman Lucas Duda is on the 15-day disabled list. Even when he has been healthy, his 93 OPS+ suggests that they should at worst acquire a more adequate Plan B than James Loney.
Michael Confronto hasn’t been the spark that they had hoped that he would be this season, so they could stand to use an upgrade in the outfield. Their bullpen could use more depth as well.
Here are five moves that the Mets should make in order to prepare for another playoff run.
