Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard received a mom’s heartfelt Instagram request and showed his generous nature with an off-court assist.

NBA star Damian Lillard recently showed a rare humility not often displayed in the media when it comes to star athletes. The two-time All-Star fielded a personal request from a mother who wanted to send her son to his basketball camp, yet by the time she had the money necessary for fees, she was told the camp was full. Lillard went above and beyond with how he responded to her request which came via the Instagram platform.

Erica Cassidy wanted to see her son attend Lillard’s camp after he enjoyed the experience last year. Since she’d been told the camp was full, the next step was to go straight to the man himself, contacting Lillard.

Using the power of social media, Erica went on Instagram and sent a heartfelt direct message letter to Lillard to tell the Trail Blazers star how much her son enjoyed the camp last year and asked if there was any way he could allow him to attend again this summer.

Rather than just allowing Erica’s son to attend the camp, Lillard also fully paid for him to attend. She would go on to post a follow-up message online for others to see just how giving a person and great of a role model the Portland guard is.

The answered Instagram request by Lillard showed a humble and generous side of an NBA star that might not often see the spotlight enough in today’s media hungry for controversy. For now, Lillard is showing even though he was snubbed for an All-Star appearance last season, he’s still an All-Star as far as his off the court actions are concerned.
