Why hasn’t LeBron James re-signed with the Cavs yet?
With most of the top free agents either returning to their team or finding a new one, there remains one top free agent that’s left to sign, one LeBron James. The four-time MVP and three-time NBA Finals MVP is coming off a season in which he led the Cavs to Cleveland’s first championship in 52 years regardless of major sport.
During the NBA playoffs, speculation arose that if LeBron, indeed, won a championship for Cleveland he would have fulfilled his obligation and would be free to go elsewhere. One of the teams LeBron was linked to was the Miami Heat, the same team he left two years ago to return to Cleveland.
Though with all of the blood, sweat and tears LeBron went through into bringing home the first Cleveland championship in 52 years, he felt that there was no reason to leave, why not stay and try to repeat? At the Cleveland Cavilers’ parade, LeBron was asked
At the Cleveland Cavaliers’ parade, LeBron was asked about his future with the Cavs and he stated, “I love it here. I love being here. I love my teammates. “Obviously my agent will take care of all the logistical things but, I’m happy. I’ve got no plans to go nowhere at this point.” .
LeBron’s reassurance that he will re-sign with the Cavs, not only makes the organization and fans happy but also all of the restaurants and bars in the Cleveland area for all the money he helps them bring in on game nights. Simply put, with LeBron in town, the neighboring businesses boom.
The question still remains, though, why hasn’t LeBron re-signed with Cleveland yet? It may be LeBron just wanting to feel like the “King” everyone calls him and wanting to be the very last free agent off of the board. We all know how LeBron likes to feel in control, which is one of the reasons he left Miami, as Pat Riley would not cede it to him .
It’s not like LeBron is unhappy with Cleveland’s offseason moves as they have added another sharpshooter in Mike Dunleavy Jr., which is vital to LeBron’s style of play. Maybe he’s waiting on J.R. Smith to get his deal? LeBron will re-sign with the Cavs, it’s just a matter of waiting right now, as LeBron likes holding all of the power as a player opposed to the organization holding the cards.
He’ll get paid by Cleveland. He’s not posturing for more money elsewhere. He’ll re-sign with Cleveland. Just give him some time.
