2. Alex Reyes (Cardinals), Pitcher – World Team

Alex Reyes first broke into the minors in the rookie leagues back in 2013 when he was only 18 years old. Now he’s a “seasoned veteran” when it comes to the minors and has dominated all the way up the ranks to the point that he’s just a few quality starts away from getting the call-up to the big team, the St. Louis Cardinals, if they need another good arm on their pitching staff.

However, Reyes has had an interesting year in the Pacific Coast League with the Memphis Redbirds to this point. He’s had nine starts and his numbers haven’t been quite as dominant as they’ve been for much of his career. The right-hander has started nine games in 2016 and his ERA sits at just 4.35 with a WHIP of only 1.35 as well. The good news is that his velocity and pitches have still been looking impressive and you have to believe that much of his lack of success has simply been adjusting to better hitting in Triple-A.

Obviously he’ll be facing more big bats at the All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, but he’s still going to have the opportunity to show off the skill set that has him in the conversation as one of the best prospects in baseball.
