Full highlights, recap and more from the 2016 MLB All-Star Futures Game
Die-hard baseball fans certainly get into the MLB All-Star Game festivities like the game itself or the Home Run Derby. However there’s nothing that quite tickles the fancy of a tried and true fan of a team like the All-Star Futures Game. So with the 2016 Futures Game being played on Sunday night to start the “weekend” off in San Diego and with many of the prospects on display, there were bound to be some big-time plays throughout.
And indeed there were some big moments from the young future stars of the game. Guys like Boston Red Sox top prospect Youan Moncada had a big night for the world team with a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning to go along with a stolen base. He wasn’t the only one shining throughout the night, though.
Manuel Margot, a member of the San Diego Padres organization, put some impressive things on display for the World Team as well, especially with the leather out in the outfield as he made one of the more impressive home run saving grabs that you’ll ever see. Moreover, Alex Reyes—a St. Louis Cardinals prospect—was slaying when he was on the mound, hitting 101 mph on the gun while he was out there hurling.
It wasn’t just the World Team shining, though, as the U.S. Team’s Alex Bregman—a Houston Astros prospect—was just a home run shy of the cycle on Sunday night. It was just a fun night of baseball all around with many memorable moments and plays. If this is the future of Major League Baseball, the league is definitely in good hands.
For what it’s worth, the World Team pulled out the victory in the 2016 Futures Game, 11-3.
