Jason Kidd says Matthew Dellavedova could start for the Bucks.

Upcoming fourth year point guard, Matthew Dellavedova, is coming off of winning a championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Though as a free agent he decided to leave Cleveland and sign a four-year, $38.5 million contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.

One might argue that shelling out nearly $10 million per year to a backup point guard might be a lot. Though, with the salary cap rising and many questionable deals being given out, Dellavedova’s contract may seem “fair.”

With Michael Cater Williams already on the roster, it would be assumed that Dellavedova would resume his back up role. Though, head coach Jason Kidd has high hopes for one of his newest players.

At the Vegas Summer League, Bucks coach said that Matthew Dellavedova could start at the point guard. Kidd stated, “As coaches we’ll start looking at different things. [Dellavedova] could start with Khris [Middleton] and Jabari [Parker] and Giannis [Antetokounmpo], or it could be coming off the bench. We’ll see.”

Kidd has high expectations for a guy that recently lost minutes in the 2016 NBA Finals to Mo Williams. Matthew Dellavedova’s best moments in his career came during the NBA Finals in 2015. Where he was able to fil in forl an injured Kyrie Irving and was pivotal in helping the Cavs go up 2-1 with his stifling defense on Steph Curry.

For a point guard that’s mostly known for his defense, being a full time starter might be a tough task to bear. Though, with Jason Kidd handing over the keys to the offense to the playmaking forward, Giannis Antetokounmpo, a defense first point guard might be what’s best for Milwaukee.
