Former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets star point guard Jarrett Jack will reportedly sign a one-year deal to return to Atlanta and play for the Atlanta Hawks.

According to Shams Charania of The Vertical of Yahoo! Sports, “free agent Jarrett Jack has agreed to a one-year minimum deal with the Atlanta Hawks.”

Jack helps the Hawks in the backup point guard department, as Atlanta traded away last year’s starting point guard Jeff Teague to his hometown team of the Indiana Pacers. Dennis Schroder is expected to replace Teague as Atlanta’s starter and this is somewhat of a homecoming for Jack as he joins the Hawks.

While Jack has bounced around with seven NBA teams in his 11-year NBA career, he first made a name for himself as a star point guard for the Atlanta-based Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the ACC from 2002 to 2005. In 2004, Georgia Tech reached the National Championship Game after beating the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Final Four, only to lose to Emeka Okafor’s Connecticut Huskies for the 2004 National Championship.

Jack spent the last two NBA seasons with the Brooklyn Nets as a sixth man/starting point guard. He averaged 12.8 points per game, 7.4 assists per game, and 4.3 rebounds per game for a lousy Brooklyn team in 2015-16.

Jack only managed to play in 32 games (starting all of them) before tearing the ACL in his right knee on January 3rd, 2016, thus ending his 11th NBA season. Brooklyn waived Jack on June 30th, 2016 and he became an unrestricted free agent.

For a veteran’s minimum even coming off an ACL tear, this seems like a bargain for the Hawks who would be getting another serviceable point guard to backup Schroder in Atlanta. It’s a low risk, high reward type of signing for the Hawks. Georgia Tech fans will rejoice upon Jack’s arrival.
