Jake Layman is flexing some serious hops in the NBA Summer League.

Layman scored five points on 1-7 from the field in Saturday’s game, going 0-5 on threes and 3-5 from the line while adding six rebounds in his professional debut against the Phoenix Suns. Going 0-5 from beyond the arc will frankly be rare for Layman, as downtown shooting is his forte, but the NBA is of course a different animal than college.

However, Layman did throw down a thunderous dunk on 2016 eighth-overall pick Marquese Chriss in the highlight below:

It will be tough for the frontcourt tweener to leapfrog Al-Farouq Aminu or 2014 ninth overall selection Noah Vonleh on the respective small and power forward depth charts, but Layman could very well be next in line at both positions with second year 24-year-old swingman Luis Montero seemingly not in Portland’s plans for the future and former Kansas Jayhawks’ power forward Cliff Alexander playing just 36 minutes as a rookie last year.

With Vonleh starting, the four looks to be locked up for the future. However, Layman can carve a role with the Blazers as a stretch three resembling a poor-man’s Mike Dunleavy with better defense.

Layman could make a name for himself with more plays like this.
