Home Run Derby 2016: All-time records

Throughout the history of the Home Run Derby, we have seen some things.

On Monday night, we will have the 31st Home Run Derby, a fun event that has been put on by Major League Baseball since 1985. The first time it was played, Dave Parker put on a show and won the championship, taking down the title at the Metrodome.

Last year, it was Todd Frazier taking the hardware home, and he will be in the proceedings again in 2016 hoping to become only the third player to successfully defend the title. The previous two were Ken Griffey Jr. and Yoenis Cespedes, two of the preeminent power hitters of their times.

Here are some records that could be broken this year:

Home Runs in an event: Jose Abreu, 41 (2005)
Home Runs in a round: Josh Hamilton, 28 (2007)
All-time home runs: Prince Fielder, 81

This is the first time that we have had the MLB All-Star Weekend at San Diego since it was held at Jack Murphy Stadium back in 1992. Of course this year, the event will take place at beautiful Petco Park, where it will be a stiff challenge to hit the ball over the fence in both the power alleys and dead center field.
