Giancarlo Stanton put on a show in the 2016 T-Mobile Home Run Derby, hitting a derby-record 61 home runs. Here is a look at the highlights from his special night.

Giancarlo Stanton got off to a hot start in Monday’s T-Mobile Home Run Derby, smacking 24 home runs in the first round alone. Stanton hit bomb after bomb, smacking two 497-foot blasts. The ball seemed to jump off his bat all night, and in the end, he would take the crown.

In the finals, Stanton would wind up beating defending champion Todd Frazier, smacking 20 home runs. In total, Stanton hit a derby-record 61 total home runs, crushing the previous record.

The previous record was held by Bobby Abreu, who hit 41 home runs in the 2005 Home Run Derby. Stanton had that many before he even took one swing in the finals.

Here is one of the 497 foot blasts Stanton deposited over the left field fence.

Here is a quick look at his incredible first round:

Even legends like Big Papi, David Ortiz loved the performance:

Unfortunately for fans of the Marlins star, Stanton will not be in the All-Star Game, as he has struggled a but during the first half of the season. However, he showed on Monday night why he is considered the best power hitter in the game, and this should be the last Midsummer Classic he is not in for a long time.

His new record of 61 home runs is going to be a tough one to beat, as you need not only the strength, but the endurance that Stanton showed during the derby. The timed format seems to be breathing new life into the Home Run Derby, which had gotten stale over the past few years.

One thing is for sure, fans will be clamoring for Stanton to return to the Home Run Derby next year, where he would have his sights on breaking his own record.
