The 2016 MLB All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday July 12. American League manager Ned Yost, who helped the Kansas City Royals win the 2015 World Series, has announced the lineup for the American League squad.

Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros will bat leadoff. He leads the American League with a .341 batting average and has stolen 23 bases while being caught just three times. This is the fourth All-Star appearance of his career.

Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels, who has finished as an MVP finalist in each of his first four seasons, will be batting second and playing left field. Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles, who is a very strong MVP candidate so far, will be batting third and playing third base.

David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox will be the DH and will bat cleanup in what will be his last All-Star game. Red Sox infielder Xander Bogaerts, who has a .863 OPS this season, will be playing shortstop and batting fifth.

Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer will be batting sixth. Mookie Betts of the Red Sox will be batting seventh and playing centerfield. Royals catcher Salvador Perez will be batting eighth. Jackie Bradley Junior of the Red Sox, making his first All-Star game appearance, will be in right field and batting ninth.
