Tim Duncan announced his retirement Monday after 19 seasons in the NBA. Here are the top five moments of his career.
The great Tim Duncan has called it quits after an NBA career that lasted for 19 seasons. Arguably the best power forward of all time, Duncan spent all of his19 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs.
With the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant also retiring after 20 seasons, all with the Lakers, the 2021 Basketball Hall of Fame class will be one to remember.
Duncan’s impact on the Spurs franchise was remarkable. The season before Duncan arrived, in 1996-97, San Antonio went 20-62. With one of the worst records in the league, the Spurs were able to win the 1997 draft lottery.
With the first pick in the 1997 draft the Spurs selected Tim Duncan out of Wake Forest. Teamed next to another Hall of Famer, David Robinson, Duncan helped form a duo that came to be known as the “twin towers.”
The very next season, Duncan helped the Spurs improve their win total to 56, a 36-win increase over the previous season.
Duncan and the Spurs would go on to win the NBA championship in 1999. This was only the beginning for Duncan and the Spurs. Duncan went on to win four more championships over the next 15 seasons. With the Big Fundamental retiring after 19 seasons, here are the five best moments from his illustrious career.
